Nichols is a high-end custom single-family residence in the City of Los Angeles, designed as a contemporary hillside home that responds directly to the site’s steep terrain and natural landscape. The architecture combines crisp light stucco volumes with dark metal cladding, expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing, and restrained structural elements to create a dramatic yet refined material palette. The spatial concept uses a series of stepped and cantilevered levels that follow the slope, allowing living spaces, terraces, and circulation paths to open toward the surrounding landscape and framed views. A key design challenge was integrating a substantial residential program into the hillside while minimizing visual impact and maintaining strong connections between architecture and terrain. The result is a distinctive Los Angeles residence with layered spaces, generous natural light, and a strong relationship to its site.
